Lola 4th PlaceThe Vizsla Club of Utah hosted a dual sanctioned AKC/American Field trial at Faust, Utah on 04/10/2011.  This was our much over do first try in broke dog stakes with Lola.  She did a fantastic job with 3 well handled finds in the Open Limited Gun Dog stake.  For her efforts, she placed 4th.

Big thanks to Brandon Downs for helping me get her ready for this and for handling her that day!

Always a great time with good people.  Thank you Vizsla Club for putting on an excellent trial.

I was able to get out over the weekend and work dogs with some friends. Great time preparing dogs for upcoming field trials. You can see Lola during the first two minutes. We’re working on getting her ready for some trials later this spring. She’s doing great and looks like a million bucks on point.

An Adventure in Idaho.

Day One:

I had to run up to Idaho to pick up Lola. I took off early Friday morning with no real plans. I figured I would grab Lola explore a few places. I had the whole weekend to find birds and explore new places. Based on my research I had a few places in mind to try. I had one particular goal in mind. I wanted to shoot some huns. For some reason, huns have been my nemesis. I’ve only found them a couple of times and can’t seem to connect with the shot when I do.

I drove into some beautiful country and explored several places. I ended up wishing better prepared with maps or my laptop to know what what private and what was not. At one point, I ended up a lot further West than I had planned….

I was happy to see Gigolo dominating the NBHA trials this year.   He looks to have locked up NBHA Open Shooting Dog of the Year.

I have had an interest in Gigolo since Jason Wilde showed up to a NSTRA trial one day with a snappy new little Female Pointer.  Molly Gone Wilde (Honky Tonk Gigolo x Okaw Gypsy).  I watched this dog win or place at trial after trial and then go on to win the 2009 Region Championship.   She had a tremendous nose and that head crank that some of the Fiddler and Honky Tonk dogs are famous for.  I knew by watching her that there must be something to Gigolo as a sire.

Soon after, I had my own Gigolo pup out of Rock Acre Blackhawk female.  Lola has been a pleasure to own not only in the field, but also as a family pet.  She has exceeded all my expectations.   She has all the style in the world, a great nose,  and runs big.  Now we have Tina, a litter mate of Lola’s  joining the team.  I am excited to see what she’ll do and what her pups will do.

Lola Wins Dog of the Year.

After a spectacular season, Honky Tonk Heartbreaker “Lola” was awarded the 2009 Utah Field Trial Juvenile Dog of the year.  We had a lot of help getting this done.  We would like to thank Keny Glasscock, Brandon Downs, Kim Sampson, Tom Kosmack, John Evans, Art Cox, and Casten Pigmen.  All of these folks either handled this dog, scouted this dog or were kind enough to loan me a horse to ride. Many others helped us in other ways. Thanks to all!

Lola

Let’s hope we can continue the success into the broke dog stakes next year. I’ve got a lot of work to do.

Brandon Downs handled Bad River Rooster and Honky Tonk Heartbreaker to placements on a very cold day.  It was 2 degrees fahrenheit when we pulled in this morning.  It was good to get out despite the cold.  First time to have Rooster and Lola in the Winners Circle together.  I hope we’ll see more of this in the future.

We placed in our first American Field Trial today. What a great time. Good people and great competition. I owe big thanks to John Evans for the use of his horse through several braces. Lola went out and ran a huge race out front. In the end it was good enough for 2nd place. We had to call for the tracker on Rooster, otherwise he had a great run too.

Honky Tonk Heartbreaker takes 2nd place.

Open Derby Results (left to right):
First Place: Lily and Ryan Dearing
Second Place: Lola and Rob Ashby
Third Place: Hawk and Curtis Sampson

I sent Lola out to Reno, Nevada with Keny Glasscock of Lost Arrow Gun Dogs. She was entered in the Open Derby Stake. Lola ran on Friday night near dark. Big thanks to Casten Pigmen for scouting the dog. Word came back from Keny that she ran big and had 3 nice finds, and ran a huge race. She was out in places that the All Age dogs didn’t reach. The rest of the derby dogs ran on Sunday. I was excited all day. I finally got the call…

1st Place Open Derby… Honky Tonk Heartbreaker.

Nice work Keny and Lola!

And big thanks to Keny and Casten!

Day two went well for us. Lola Placed 2nd in Open Puppy. Congrats to Caleb Stroh and “The Dude” on his First Place finish!
